<Em(add9)> is just Em as usual plus little pinky on the F# string in the same (2nd) fret at the bottom. Or you could just play Em. It gives a nice subtle little note change. Cheers! |
Widecombe Fair by Show of Hands/Steve King Capo1
Em It was early dawn when we met Em out on the hill G side
On our way to D Widdecombe fair
To drink ourselves dry Em make a C big noise there
Am Six Devon lads with a D younger boy
Whose Em mother had said Em promise me now
You'll watch G for him
He's never slept out of D home before
And you know too well there'll be C trouble in store
Am I gave her my word and we D crossed the moor
It was Em growing dark we Em stopped at the inn when we G saw her
Fair faced in the D candle light
Such a fine sight C with her long black hair
Am Young Billy stared and she D stared right back
But the landlord said she's Em spoken for
Em He said leave me here alone
I'll G meet you tomorrow
On your way back home at the D crossways
At noon on the C Whiddon Down road
You Am go and I'll D stay, you boys go and I'll Em stay
Em I said take my watch and my chain
We all hit the G road again
Four miles D to the fairground
we had a fine time there
C Next day came, we Am waited in the rain at the D crossroads
But the boy never came, I said Em you go ahead
I returned to the Inn
But the landlord G said that the last thing C seen
Was a D boy and a girl, out on the moor
That was C all he knew and he Am showed me the door
D I called and I cried God knows I tried
Until the Em long night came
His G mother flew at me, called me names
Scratched my face, D said I was to blame
and asked would she ever see her Am sweet, sweet D son again
Instrumental Em Em(add9)
Em Well a year went by without Em one sign
I'm G back at the Inn to see what I'd find
And the D wind whistled cold on the moor that night
I C thought I saw a couple in the Am pale moonlight
D The landlord said "It's you again"
From his Em pocket hung down my watch and chain
Em Tom, I sat down on a stone and I G cried
D Knowing full well that the young lad died
C Tom Tom, lend Am me your grey mare
I want to go back to Widdecombe fair
Em With Bill and Jan, Peter and Dan, Harry and Pete
On the moors we'll meet
Em All along, D down along Em out along lee
Em All along, D down along Em out along lee
